CREDIT FOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
ATCEM recognizes that knowledge and skills relevant to ministry
preparation can be obtained in both formal and informal settings. Much
relevant learning takes place through the experiences of life outside of
classroom.
Thus, ATCEM may grant a limited amount of credit at the undergraduate
level for adequately validated experiential learning of a post secondary
nature. Adequate validation is based on evidence submitted by the
candidate for credit that manifests equivalency with formal educational
outcomes. This may include credit for business, professional or ministry
experiences; college level equivalency tests; scholarly publications or
presentations; personal study, adult education or other non-formal
learning experiences.
Life experience credit granted must be relevant to the academic
programmes offered by ATCEM and be validated through appropriate
documentation and evaluation. In no case may more than one-fourth of the
credits required for a degree, diploma or certificate be obtained
through experiential learning. Credit for experiential learning will not
be entered onto the transcript until all other requirements for
graduation have been fulfilled.
An evaluation will be
made when requested and documentation is submitted. The results will be
recorded in the student’s file. The student will be given a copy so the
student can plan knowing the courses for which experiential learning
credit has been given. (See separate policy regarding master’s or
graduate level courses.
Supporting documentation submitted by the student will be retained in
file until all other requirements are met. However, the student should
submit documentation as soon as possible in order for the ATCEM
personnel to advise the student concerning requirements remaining. The
student should procure the appropriate form from ATCEM’s Registrar. Upon
submission of request and documentation, the Academic Dean will make an
evaluation and grant appropriate credit
